Nuwara Eliya is a tea-producing region famous since ancient times as a highland summer retreat. This tea is from a tea garden named after a legend of two lovers from different social classes who, in a tragic end, threw themselves off a waterfall.
When hot water is poured over the large, reddish-brown tea leaves, it brews into a sepia-colored cup. It has a refreshing taste and a crisp, sweet aroma like green apples that glides smoothly down the throat. Please enjoy the true aroma of this high-grown tea straight. It is also a delicious tea to enjoy with meals or as a cold beverage.

＜Lover's Leap Tea Garden＞

The Lover's Leap Tea Garden is not an independent tea factory but rather a division of the Pedro Tea Estate. While the tea fields are managed here, all operations related to tea production are carried out at the main factory of the Pedro Tea Estate.
Within its grounds is the "Lover's Leap Waterfall," and the tragic love story associated with this waterfall is the origin of the tea garden's name.
Long ago, a prince from Kandy fell in love with a village girl of lower status. However, his father, the king, would not permit it, and as they fled from their pursuers, the two lovers threw themselves from the rocks of this waterfall, vowing eternal love—a sad tale. It is also said that the spirits of the lovers appear at night.
In addition to Lover's Leap, the Pedro Tea Estate also ships tea under the name "Mahagastotte." Both are representative selling marks of Nuwara Eliya. The estate was established around 1840, and tea production began in earnest in 1870. Today, these tea leaves are produced on a vast tea estate covering approximately 544 hectares.
It also features a visitor center for general tourists and is one of the most well-known tea gardens in the Nuwara Eliya region.

In tropical Sri Lanka, Nuwara Eliya, with an average annual temperature of 16°C, flourished as a summer resort and was dubbed "Little England."
Even today, its streets, with their British-style buildings, racecourse, botanical gardens, and clubhouses, retain the vestiges of that era, making it a popular tourist destination even for Sri Lankans. However, the production of tea in this highland region is not extensive, accounting for only about 1.5% of Sri Lanka's total. Nuwara Eliya experiences its quality season from January to February. The tea, with its brilliant orange liquor and the aroma of fresh young leaves, is praised as the "Champagne of Ceylon Tea."
